I'm a composer for screen media with credits across 50+ short films, features, commercials, promos and TV syncs. Films I've scored have won many international awards on the festival circuit, with one being top-ten shortlisted for BAFTA nomination.
I compose and oversee production for Evolution Media Music, and have had my music released through BMG, EMI and West One, with regular placements across major TV broadcasters worldwide; I've also enjoyed much radio airplay of my guitar playing including BBC Radios 2, 3 and 6 Music.
With an MA in Composing for Film from the National Film and Television School (recently voted the world's best film school) and a first class BA in Music from the University of York, I've written and produced music to a whole variety of briefs in support of all kinds of media, and have a strong understanding of the ways in which music can enhance storytelling.
A classically trained grade eight guitarist, I came up from a young age through a string of bands and ensembles (rock, jazz, folk, funk, contemporary classical, theatre pit orchestras, choirs), many of which I wrote for. This varied background has given me an enthusiasm for all things music, and a versatility which inspires and informs my work.

For me, great music confirms and denies your expectations in equal measure. It's adventurous, exciting, challenging - but never at the expense of a direct emotional connection, be it in a good groove or a memorable melody. Interesting without pretentiousness, surprising without losing its way, catchy without over-simplicity. A fine balance of instinct and intellect, heart and head.
The best films do the same, which is why I have a passion for writing music for screen. I come to each collaboration with both an assertive creativity and a flexible, amicable approach. I always want to achieve the vision of the brief, through creating music which has real character but always supports and enhances the narrative. I love working with live players when possible, and equally can create professionally produced scores with my 'in the box' gear and my own playing.

"David’s music infuses life and emotion into everything it touches. He is not only absolutely dextrous in working within a brief, but also brings his own creativity and ideas into the project, enhancing it and taking the scenes further emotionally and narratively. David is also a pleasure to work with, and always has a smile on his face. He works tirelessly for the projects he is on and even under pressure manages to seem relaxed and at the top of his game. He is, without a doubt, a great addition to any project and an invaluable creative partner. "
Miranda Ballesteros - Producer
"Dave is talented, professional and diverse in his skills. He can quickly come up with sketches of music that give you a brilliant idea of where the project is going. He takes feedback well and utilises it to make music that you can be proud to have accompanying your work. Since working with him on our film 'Canuck Black', I have and will continue to return to him for his continued high quality of work."
Rebecca Archer - Director/Animator
"A versatile composer, David has an excellent understanding of story and a keen sense of how to underpin and enhance the character's emotional journey. He is a fantastic collaborator and was constantly involved in the project, from pre-production through to the sound mix. His final score was vital to the success of our film."
Ewan Stewart - Writer/Director
"David was great to work with. Our brief was for him to score a corporate video for a client of ours, and he understood the tone we were after straight away, coming back with a near-perfect first draft. He responded speedily to our amends and got the finished track to us well ahead of deadline. The client loved it. In fact, they requested him personally for an extra four videos we’re putting out this year, so he's ended up creating their whole sonic signature. He’s now our go-to sound guy, and I’d definitely commission him again."
